Introducing Wildwood...
Put on your cosiest jumper and join me for a woodland adventure: we'll build a den, forage for our supper and snuggle up under a quilt that savours the season of rest. Let me introduce you to the… Last summer I sent out a little survey to our block of the month gang, and one of the replies included a suggestion for a future theme that I just couldn't stop thinking about. So this year's quilt is firmly rooted in the woodlands of Britain and inspired by the flora and fauna we m

Best blue and white...
Tilda Fabrics have a wonderful treat lined up for us this summer: some of their best-known prints have been recoloured in a fresh blue and white colour palette - with a dainty dash of pink and green - and bundled up for our delectation. Called Something Blue, they’ll be on the shelves of your favourite fabric shop in June. Designer Tone Finnanger's inspiration was her collection of blue and white pottery and she's also designed a range of quilts adorned with appliqued plates,

Spring Cottage Sampler: the borders
With spring on the horizon, I'm delighted to introduce you to my new Petit FOUR pattern, the Spring Cottage Sampler, before its release on the 1st of March. Last year Andrea - from the Willow Cottage Quilt Company - and I posted parcels of Tilda-filled loveliness to our block of the month participants, with each block taking them on a restoring ramble deep into the heart of the English countryside as we searched for the first signs of spring. My inspiration for this quilt c

Nutcracker block of the month update...
It's Valentine's Day this weekend, so I'm posting a little love-letter to our current block of the month programme, the Nutcracker , and introducing you to our cast so far... Sewing with Tilda Fabrics' Merry Little Christmas collection, we've decorated our Christmas Tree, met the hero of our tale, the Nutcracker, his dastardly - but darling - foe, the Mouse King, and listened to both a Grandfather and a Cuckoo clock chime midnight. This month we met the handsome Prince and ma

From my sketchbook: Cutting Patch
With spring just around the corner I'll be looking out for sleepy bees waking from their winter slumbers. Even though the weather's still dreary, thoughts - if not deeds - will turn to clearing flowerbeds and planting seeds in the hope of summer blooms in the cutting patch. Which has inspired my new project in Today's Quilter (issue 137) ... You may recognise the classic Irish Chain setting from my To Skye quilt. I scaled it down slightly and have loved being able to use it

Creating a Wide Binding
I mentioned in my last post that I'd been experimenting with extra wide, single-fold binding - with some fussy cutting thrown in for good measure - based on a wonderful tutorial by Carrie Nelson for the Fat Quarter Shop and here, as promised, are my tips if you'd like to do the same. Deciding on the width of the binding (& other notes) My first step was to decide on the width of the binding. My measurement was based on the pattern repeat of vertical bands of roses ac
