Colour Stories: autumn...

Do you remember the thrill of opening a new set of colouring pencils when you were little? All those pristine, freshly sharpened pencils arranged in rainbow order: oh, the possibilities!

Well, I definitely recalled that heady feeling when I saw the first glimpses of Tilda Fabric's Creating Memories collection. They're already helpfully grouped into seasonal palettes, but that doesn't mean we can't mix them up a bit, which is what I intend to do in this occasional series of posts. And I'm starting with autumn...

clockwise from the top: Plaid stone, Berrytangle copper, Polkadot Ginger, Frida red, Tiny Star light blue, Carla saffron, Plaid burgundy, Chambray petrol, Frida brown, Polkadot red, Harper saffron, Chambray sand, Carla red

I've combined a classic autumnal trio of glowing saffron, burnished copper and earthy brown prints and combined them with woodsmoke greys and the rich red of toadstool caps. I went back to my Spellbound Sampler Pinterest board for inspiration, adding - because it's impossible not to - a few more pins as I went.

And so my old friend, the Spellbound Sampler has had a little makeover...

As has my next addition to the shop: Rosehip. I made my original version with a Layer Cake, but it would also work beautifully with ten of your favourite Fat Eighths or 5" x width-of-fabric strips. The pattern - the last in this year's floral series - will be in the shop, in both Paper and PDF, on the 5th of November.

And can we even contemplate this time of year without wondering what the Country Mice are up to? I've turned their berries into haws, so they can rustle up some hawthorn jelly for the winter in this pretty kitchen table topper...

Here in Shropshire we're knee deep in preparations for our annual Bonfire party and I'm excited to have our boys and their friends home to share it with us. The feasting season has begun!
