Primrose Hill: month one…

Our leisurely stroll through Primrose Hill has begun (hurray). This month’s blocks are the Tulip and Forget-me-not Flowerpots. November is the perfect month for planting tulips and, as I’ve just finished planting up pots of tulips in my own garden, these blocks seem very timely.

London has always put on a fine display of potted flowers. Front doors are adorned with pairs of clipped box trees, tiny balconies are crammed with pots of geraniums, the pubs are festooned with hanging baskets and smart hotels compete to have the most extravagant window boxes, so I had to include some cheery pots in my design.

I assembled a stack of beautiful books to inspire me when I started sketching blocks for Primrose Hill, amongst them was Georgianna Lane’s London in Bloom...

On the cover of Georgianna’s gorgeous book is Peggy Porschen‘s Belgravia parlour: as famous for its floral displays as for its perfectly crafted cakes. And if you like to head straight from afternoon tea to cocktails - when in London! - Dalloway Terrace at the Bloomsbury Hotel has taken potted plants to heady new heights and you can sip your Bramble enveloped by flowers.

Feeling inspired to create a few potted flowers of your own? You can find the block patterns in issue 81 of Today's Quilter. I’ll leave the accompanying cake and cocktails to you ;-)
